Exercise Physiologist: Body Mechanic

What do you think of when you think of an exercise physiologist? How do they differ from a personal trainer or physio?

Well, the traditional definition states that an exercise physiologist are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people living with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries, or disabilities.

Put simply, they are learned in the way of medical conditions and use that knowledge to create exercise programs to aid those that are living with medical conditions.

Even further, we love the way that our Exercise Physiologist, Trent puts it.

When our car breaks down or something goes wrong, we go to a mechanic. When we aren’t feeling well, we go to a doctor. But when our body isn’t moving the way it should, who do you call? A body mechanic! An exercise physiologist.

They are the ones that help people manage their medical conditions and their injuries. Where a doctor prescribes medication, an exercise physiologist will prescribe exercise. They will work with you to get your body moving and working properly.

A common challenge for people living with chronic medical conditions is that they fear exercise. It is the job of an exercise physiologist to make sure that those people especially move. Exercise is one of the greatest tools we have to help us work on moving better and improving our quality of life.
